What are body image & eating concerns?

Body image and eating concerns range from persistent negative self-talk about your body to a complicated relationship with food that affects your daily life, mood, or wellbeing. These concerns exist on a spectrum, and you don't need a formal diagnosis for it to be worth talking to someone.

How it affects college students

Dining hall life, new independence around food choices, social comparison, and the general upheaval of a new environment can all intensify body image and eating concerns for college students. These concerns often coexist with anxiety, depression, or perfectionism, and can be easy to minimize or hide, especially in an environment where disordered patterns can sometimes blend into campus norms.
