Lamictal

(Lamotrigine)

Lamictal is a mood stabiliser particularly effective at preventing the depressive episodes of bipolar disorder. Unlike many mood stabilisers, it does not typically cause sedation or significant weight gain, making it a well-tolerated long-term option.

Most students with insurance pay a $25 average copay. No insurance? Sessions start at $110.

Lamictal works by stabilising electrical activity in the brain and reducing the release of glutamate. It is often the preferred mood stabiliser for bipolar II disorder and for people whose main struggle is depression rather than mania. It must be titrated slowly to reduce the risk of a serious skin reaction.
